So I would apply at least one coat of sealer to be safe. If you use shellac it dries clear and quick so you can spread your wax the next day no trouble. Hope this is of some help. I had thought the wax would harden and provide a smooth protective finish.

The wax did provide a pleasing finish but the wax smears easily. I rebuff by hand then when touched on something is placed on the waxed surface new smears appear. I buy the general finishes sealer at a local Woodcraft store and the Home Depot near me carries the Varathane sealer.


You shouldn’t have a yellowing issue with either of those products, however I know if you painted a piece that’s prone to bleeding and didn’t prime it first, the sealer can occasionally (rarely) draw out the wood tannins and make it look a bit yellow.
