Afromosia lumber

It’s usually available as lumber in good sizes. Prices are medium to high for an imported African hardwood. Afrormosia wood lumber is similar to teak in color, texture and graining. In addition to its striking appearance, afrormosia has long been a favorite in Europe for high-grade commercial and residential construction when quality and appearance, rather than cost, have been design objectives and a uniform, rich look is desired. Afromosia is a heavy and hard wood.

It is easy to work with sharp tools. It turns, stains, glues well making finishing work easy. This wood has a slight blunting effect on cutting edges. The straight to interlocked grain produces a ropelike figure when radially cut.

Often used as a substitute for teak, but has nice features of its own as well. An attractive striped grain figure is very common as well. The wood is hard and heavy, and excellent for strong furniture. Sometimes referred to as African Teak in the hardwood flooring industry, it is an not related to tectona grandis, but considered an excellent Teak substitute in certain uses due to its appearance and physical properties.
