Treated glulam

It leaves a light honey color finish that is virtually undetectable to the naked eye. The treatment protects the glulam beam from rot, decay and insects. Its high strength is great for decks allowing for wider spacing between support posts enlarging the unobstructed view and usable space under the deck. A dramatic black top coat, a whitewash or silky gray steel are just some examples of finishes that both protects and enhances the look of your glulam.


If you treat the glulam surface it can take on a new form or look. What does glulam stand for? Alaska Yellow Cedar is a naturally resistant species that is a green alternative to pressure-treated wood. It is intended for above ground exterior applications and is most common for raised deck beams. If the appearance of this product is acceptable to the consumer, it can be used successfully in applications where treated wood is required.

Treatment options for outdoor above-ground (H3) glulam of Pinus radiata and P. TBTN-LOSP and CCA were included for comparison.
