Sanding corners

How to sand by hand? Grit is the most underrated aspect when sanding wood. Check the back of the sandpaper for the size. Glue is the usual suspect caught in tight spaces. We used the palm sander (first at 80-grit, then 110-grit, and finally at 220-grit) to finish up corners and difficult to reach places, like doorjams.

The next challenge was this area. A belt sander clamped securely on its side makes a great hands-free sander for sanding workpiece edges. Clamp the sander to the assembly (snug it—don’t overtighten). Scraping tight corners is much better than sanding.

Sanding is just a mechanical process developed to allow un-skilled workers to produce pseudo finished goods for mass market consumption by customers who don’t know any better or couldn’t afford true hand finished goods due to the huge labor expense that would be required. In other words, if I slide the sander all the way into the corner , the adjacent corner is cut by the orbital action. I believe that any orbital action sander is going to have this problem, including the orbital oscillating multi-tools. Spread the compoun and place the tape.

Bed the tape with a drywall knife. Starting from the center, bed the tape by moving the knife against the joint. Apply compound to each side of the corner. Wrap an adhesive-backed sanding discover the edge of a flexible putty knife. Trim the sandpaper flush to the edge of the putty knife with a utility knife.

Creative Ways to Sand in Tight Corners When you have to sand in a tight corner, it can be tough to reach in there to begin with, let alone to sand with the grain. Pick up some adhesive-backed sandpaper or an adhesive-backed sanding disc and wrap it around a pen, pencil, dowel or putty knife, trimming the edges flush with the tool.

Does anybody have a good solution for sanding into deg corners ? This would be between coats of finish. On our Kornerking modules we have six corners on each. We are starting to do hundreds of these at a time and the sanding block works but is slow. I have tried an angle block attached to a detail sander but not much success yet.

Start with spackling the nail and screw holes, then move on to the long horizontal joints, then the outside corners , and then finish with the inside corners. Once it turns white, it is completely dry. Hand- sanding gives you the most control over shaping the wood surface. You can address corners and recesses that a machine would not be able to reach.
