Otherwise I would have needed to use a copious amount of sandpaper and elbow grease, as if I were a provincial (and not a Real Gospodar).

The materials are inexpensive, and the job takes about eight hours (spread over a few days). After the joint compound has drie apply additional coats until the defect is filled. To feather the edge, increase pressure and angle on the drywall knife as you reach the outer edges of the patch area to minimize, or thin, the compound on the drywall. This involves scraping away the loose tape and crumbled bits of drywall mu sanding the surface smooth.
